[Q] I
pay my premium eight times a year through a bill you send me. Is
there an easier way to handle this than writing out a check eight
different times?
[A] Actually, you have several options. If your employer provides
access to MetLife Auto & Home's group insurance program, you can
enjoy the convenience of payroll deduction. Or you can sign up for
our ExpressIT automatic payment plan
for similar convenience with monthly deductions from your checking
account. Also, you can go to www.eservice.metlife.com
and pay your premium online. You have choices!
[Q]
When going out to dinner at a nice restaurant in the city, I'm hesitant
to use valet parking for my brand-new car. Should I worry?
[A] Probably not. When you hand over your keys to the valet,
responsibility for your car goes with the keys. Any reputable restaurant,
hotel or theater will likely have a valet service that carries insurance
that specifically covers it for damages to cars in its care. Take
a close look at your car when the valet returns it to you and report
any damage immediately. Rest assured, however, that if your car
were damaged and the valet did not have insurance, your auto policy
would cover the repairs (if you carried full physical damage coverage).
[Q]
My personal computer wasn't hit by the Mydoom worm that struck this
year, but I'm concerned. Would my insurance pay if my computer were
infected and ruined?
[A] The good news first: Many basic homeowners or renters policies
provide limited coverage for damage by a virus to your computer
software and hardware. The bad news is that most of those losses
are subject to the policy's deductible, which can be higher than
$1,000. And your loss is usually limited to $5,000. If you're a
techie who has all the latest equipment or a gamer with an extensive
software collection, those limits may be too low. Consider expanding
your computer coverage with MetLife Auto & Home's optional Home
Computer coverage. For a small premium, you can raise your limit
for a computer loss to as much as $15,000 and reduce your deductible
to $50. You will need to provide proof of purchase in the event
of a loss, so save receipts for all software, CD-ROMs, memory and
other computer add-ons.
