[Q] I have my auto policy with MetLife Auto & Home, but my life insurance and homeowners policies are with other companies. Other than convenience, is there any real reason to combine these policies with one family of companies?

[A] Having three different insurance companies is a little like having three different doctors: Not one of them is getting the full picture of your health. Having MetLife and its affiliates handle all your insurance needs provides a comprehensive view of your financial health. Plus, you may be eligible for multiple-policy discounts. To purchase additional coverage, call today 1 800 GET-MET 1.

[Q] I was talking to a friend yesterday who's paying less for her homeowners policy than I am. I hadn't heard of the company she's using, but I'm tempted to switch. Am I overpaying?

[A] Be cautious. The high-profile bankruptcies of the past few years have been a timely reminder that a company-particularly an insurer-is only as good as its financial backing. Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Company has a rating of A or Excellent from A.M. Best (Aug. 2004), the leading evaluator of insurance company solvency. Ratings are based on a company's finances, philosophy and business plan. Insurers with A ratings have top-notch balance sheets, operating performance and business profiles, giving them excellent ability to meet their obligations to policyholders. Check the financial stability of any company you're considering, and review your policy to ensure that the coverage is equal. Meanwhile, you may be able to lower your premium by choosing a higher deductible or installing burglar and fire alarms, smoke detectors and deadbolt locks.

[Q] I work every day and can't make time to call about my auto policy. How can I get the information I need?

[A] You can access many of the answers you need 24 hours a day at www.metlife.com. Just log on, create a secure account and have your vehicle identification and policy numbers handy. You'll be able to view your coverage, premiums, discounts, vehicles and drivers. You'll even be able to check the status of your claims, including adjuster name, appraisal status, location of loss and type of damage. Plus, you can find the answers to common questions about policy billing and claims. Available in most states.
